1. What is BlueHarvest good for? BlueHarvest was designed by an American high school teacher to help organize the written feedback that teachers give to students. This feedback is often the most important information that students receive, but, sadly, it can take a backseat to numerical and letter grades. BlueHarvest records, organizes, and makes giving feedback much easier for everyone (students, parents, and teachers)
2. Do I have to already be using Standards-Based Grading? No, but you should be. BlueHarvest is designed to organize the feedback that teachers give students. Moreso, it's designed to make that feedback two-way or even multi faceted, by bringing everyone into the formative process.
3. Is BlueHarvest intended to replace my current SIS (e.g. PowerSchool, InfiniteCampus)? Nope. BlueHarvest is not a gradebook. Those programs are written by fancy people who own suits. They keep track of lunch menus and file fancy reports that no one reads. BlueHarvest is designed to be read, used, and experienced in a social media sense. If you ever leave comments on student work, BlueHarvest will make your job easier.
4. Pointslessness and binary grading sound amazing, but I have to give grades; how does BlueHarvest do final grades? BlueHarvest will calculate a final grade based on how many items a student has been deemed proficient on. The data is easy to copy and paste into PowerSchool, or whatever gradebook you have to use.
5. Your test account is not encrypted, what is BlueHarvest's security like? BlueHarvest's member account area is 128-bit encrypted through https. Your students are safe with us. The testdrive data is flapping in the wind, though. (we reset that account often)
6. Does BlueHarvest do collaboration? Boy howdy does it! BlueHarvest allows you to share students between teachers so that feedback can be given across courses. BlueHarvest also alows feedback to be transferred from teacher-to-teacher as the student moves through the years! (finally!)
